Position: Second Shift Commercial Operating Engineer

Location: Overland Park, KS

Shift: Primarily 2nd shift (2:00 PM – 11:00 PM)

Compensation: $35 – $37 per hour DOE

Role Overview

The Operating Engineer ensures efficient operation of building systems and performs maintenance on assigned equipment. Reporting to the central plant supervisor, the role requires both technical skill and physical capability.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair heating equipment, chillers (air and water cooled), DX units, pumps, cooling towers, fan coil units, VAV, and air distribution systems.
• Monitor and respond to Energy Management System (EMS) alerts.
• Perform preventive maintenance:
  • Filter changes, coil cleaning, tube punching, fan/pump/motor greasing
  • Belt inspection and adjustment, motor bearing replacement, pulley/shaft alignment
  • Water chemical treatment monitoring, cooling tower maintenance
  • Annual inspections and scheduled routines
• Inspect mechanical equipment, fan room equipment, electric rooms, back-up generators.
• Maintain safety systems: emergency exit signs, fire and life safety inspections, and compliance with Occidental Management standards.
• Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

• Ability to distinguish color differences and small components

Experience, Education & Credentials

• Technical, vocational, or on-the-job training in HVAC, boilers, pumps, refrigerant systems, compressors, and water systems
• Minimum 5 years of related commercial property experience
• Basic proficiency with Office365 (Outlook, Teams, Word)
• Valid driver’s license and insurable record
• Certification as a Universal Technician for CFCs may be required
