Commercial Building Engineer

Location: Plano, TX

Pay: $26–$30/hour

Position Type: Contract-to-Hire

Position Summary

The Commercial Building Engineer is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of building systems to ensure optimal performance and safety. This role requires hands-on technical expertise across multiple trades and the ability to support overall property operations.

Key Responsibilities

Building Systems Maintenance

• Operate, monitor, and maintain HVAC, electrical, plumbing, elevator, security, fire alarm, and emergency generator systems
• Perform inspections, troubleshooting, repairs, and preventive maintenance

General Maintenance & Upkeep

• Complete painting, cleaning, and organization of vacant spaces, common areas, and shop areas
• Conduct routine inspections of buildings, restrooms, and equipment rooms
• Monitor HVAC system performance

Contractor Coordination

• Oversee contractors and subcontractors working on-site
• Verify work quality, billed time, and materials used
• Maintain records and reports of all contracted work for management reference

Physical Requirements

• Ability to climb and work from a 6-foot ladder for up to 30 minutes
• Ability to reach overhead and perform repairs
• Capable of kneeling, squatting, or standing for up to one hour
• Ability to work in confined spaces (e.g., ceilings, restrooms, under sinks)
• Comfortable walking distances up to 0.25 miles, including stairwells
• Ability to access roofs via ladders and hatches while carrying tools (up to 25 lbs)
• Capable of maneuvering around rooftop equipment, piping, and ductwork

Qualifications

• Previous experience in commercial building maintenance required
• Strong knowledge of:
  • HVAC systems
  • Electrical systems
  • Plumbing
  • Preventive maintenance practices
