Controller – Multifamily Real Estate Portfolio

We are seeking an experienced Controller to lead accounting and financial operations for a growing multifamily real estate portfolio. This is a highly visible leadership role that works directly with ownership to support financial strategy, portfolio performance, and operational growth.

This position is ideal for a hands-on accounting leader with strong real estate experience who enjoys both managing day-to-day accounting operations and contributing to high-level financial planning.

Financial & Property Accounting

• Oversee full-cycle accounting for a multifamily portfolio including general ledger, AP/AR, tenant ledgers, and month-end close

• Prepare property-level and consolidated financial statements

• Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning

• Analyze portfolio performance and present variance reports to ownership

• Maintain strong internal controls and improve accounting processes

Payroll & HR Administration

• Oversee payroll processing through ADP, including GL coding and reconciliation

• Ensure compliance with payroll tax filings, W-2 and 1099 reporting

• Support light HR administration including onboarding documentation

Ownership & Strategic Financial Support

• Serve as the financial liaison to ownership, CPAs, and external advisors

• Support entity-level reporting, trust accounting, and ownership structures

• Assist with long-term financial planning and portfolio growth initiatives

Leadership

• Manage and mentor a small accounting team

• Partner closely with property management and operations teams

• Present financial insights clearly to leadership and stakeholder


What We're Looking For

• 7–10+ years of progressive accounting experience

• 4+ years in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role

• Experience with multifamily or real estate portfolio accounting

• Strong knowledge of Yardi, MRI, RealPage, or AppFolio

• Experience managing ADP payroll and compliance reporting

• Advanced Excel and financial analysis skills

• Experience working with family-owned businesses or real estate ownership groups is a plus

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or Business preferred

• CPA preferred but not required
