Managing Director of Accounting

The Role We are seeking a highly skilled Managing Director of Accounting to join our Finance and Accounting department. This key leadership role supports all legal entities by ensuring accurate and timely financial record review, input, processing, and maintenance.

Reporting Structure The Managing Director of Accounting will report directly to the Controller and assist in overall team operations.

Key Responsibilities To excel in this role, the Managing Director of Accounting must perform the following duties effectively:

Financial Reporting, System Administration, Portal Management, and Data Analysis:

• Serve as a system administrator for accounting applications (Sage, Cash Pro, Global Payment credit cards, Merchant credit cards, Atlas, and Nimble).
• Utilize financial reporting tools such as MASINTEL and SAGE standard reports.
• Manage data extraction and upload functions between various systems for analysis and reporting.
• Oversee portals related to payment requests, tax filings, banking, vendor payments, and grant applications.

Accounting & General:

• Oversee financial transaction processing across multiple systems.
• Review and approve monthly journal entries and reconciliations.
• Ensure grant and in-kind accounting aligns with GAAP standards.
• Monitor and report on event activity for financial accuracy.
• Administer general ledger and accounts payable reporting.
• Oversee monthly journal entries for fixed assets, depreciation, and lease accounting.
• Maintain records and oversee office equipment, telephones, and company credit cards.
• Participate in organization events as needed.

Treasury and Tax Support:

• Monitor daily cash and credit card transactions.
• Review and approve monthly bank reconciliations.
• Collaborate with the Controller to manage cash balances and transactions.
• Partner with external tax professionals on tax return preparation and compliance.
• Complete and file tax returns, including Sales and Use, Franchise Tax, and 1099s.

Payroll and Benefits:

• Serve as backup for payroll processing.
• Review and approve payroll processing and funding.
• Address payroll-related projects, accruals, and year-end audit materials.

Membership Dues, Events, and Contribution Invoicing:

• Oversee invoicing setup, templates, and financial reporting integration within AMS/CRM systems.
• Resolve system issues promptly to ensure accuracy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business with an emphasis in accounting and 10+ years of experience, including full month-end close, general ledger, billing, payroll, and accounts payable experience.
• Associate degree with an emphasis in accounting or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school with 10+ years of related experience will also be considered.
• Experience with SAGE, Salesforce, Nimble, or other CRM/ERP/Accounting systems is a plus.

Physical Requirements

• Moderate noise level in work environment.
• Occasional standing and lifting (at least 5 pounds).
• Extended periods of sitting.
• Occasional travel required.
