Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled Network Observability Engineer to join a small, specialized team focused on the deployment, management, and optimization of network monitoring and observability tools. This role is part of a major network observability project and is ideal for candidates with hands-on experience implementing or managing network monitoring solutions within large-scale, high-availability environments, such as financial services or other highly regulated industries.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement, configure, and maintain network observability and monitoring tools for real-time and historical visibility into network faults and performance.
  • Develop, modify, and maintain scripts and programs to enhance monitoring capabilities, automate processes, and improve infrastructure visibility.
  • Work closely with the broader network team (~40 members) and the 2-person Network Observability team to ensure network stability and efficiency.
  • Manage Cisco network hardware and related protocols in a primarily Cisco environment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve tool issues, coordinating with vendors as needed.
  • Maintain tool versions and follow change control procedures.
  • Integrate monitoring solutions with other platforms such as ServiceNow and alerting systems (e.g., xMatters).
  • Support proofs of concept (POCs) with new network monitoring vendors.

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with network observability and monitoring solutions.
  • Strong scripting skills (Python, Perl, or similar) for automation and tool customization.
  • Deep understanding of Cisco hardware, networking protocols, and network infrastructure.
  • Proficiency with UNIX/RedHat Linux and some system administration experience.
  • Experience with SNMP MIBs, Syslog, NetFlow, TACACS, SNMP Traps, and alerting.
  • Familiarity with databases such as MySQL, Postgres, or Vertica.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently once onboarded.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in financial services or other highly regulated, uptime-critical environments.
  • Experience managing or integrating tools such as ThousandEyes, ScienceLogic, SolarWinds, Broadcom/CA DX NetOps suite, Infoblox IPAM, or similar.
  • Automation experience using Ansible, GitLab, or equivalent tools.
  • Experience with JSON, network APIs/REST integrations, and SSL/certificate management.
  • Hands-on experience with network monitoring tool installation, configuration, and vendor coordination.

Why Join:

This is a rare opportunity to work in a niche, high-impact role within a major network observability project. You’ll collaborate with a focused, expert team while influencing the deployment and management of the next-generation monitoring tools for the company’s network infrastructure.
